Earl Hoyt Jr.'s Notes of Interest

  • In the 1972 Olympics the Hoyt Pro Medalist was the bow shot by both gold medal winners, Doreen Wilber and John Williams. During the 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics, the Hoyt line of bows has never failed to win a gold, silver or bronze medal.
  • Married Ann Weber in 1971. Together Ann and Earl have given numerous seminars, shot tournaments, and helped both the professional and amateur enjoy the sport.
  • 1947 - Developed the first step toward dynamic balance.
  • 1953 - Production of the first truly short recurve hunting bow - 52 inches, later changed to 58 inches as a more practical length.
  • 1959 - Incorporation of the thumb rest to the pistol grip
  • Outstanding competitor. One of only three archers to have shot in 25 NAA Nationals.
  • Responsible for a number of significant, patented archery design innovations, including equal-length bow limbs, pistol grip bow handles and bow stabilizers
  • Recipient, National Archery Association's Thompson Medal of Honor, 1977
  • Over 65 years service to archery
